Did you know that 500,000 people live in poverty across metro Detroit?
For 2010, Fashion In Detroit has partnered with Michigan-based Forgotten Harvest, a non-profit organization established in 1990 to tackle two issues: hunger and waste. Forgotten Harvest strives to eliminate hunger in the metro Detroit area by saving prepared and perishable food and donating it to emergency food providers.
The organization presently rescues 12.5 million pounds of food each year by accumulating excess prepared and perishable food from numerous outlets such as restaurants, farmers, grocery stores, caterers, dairies and wholesale food distributors. The complimentary food, which would alternatively go to waste, is donated to emergency food suppliers in metro Detroit.
Forgotten Harvest serves people of all ages, race and faiths.
A portion of the Fashion In Detroit proceeds will benefit this magnificent mission. Please join us as we collaborate with Forgotten Harvest to help feed through fashion.
